And it begins!

Dear parents,

Welcome to the new school year! I am excited to have your child in my class.  This year is shaping up to be a blast.  For new parents to the school, welcome!  Your child will be welcomed with open arms.  Please let me know if there are any transition issues.  I like to address them right away.

Below is the Curriculum update for this week.  This is what we are planning on covering this week.



Virtue of the Month:  Respect and Responsibility
Math:  *Lessons: 1 – Using Money to Illustrate Place Value; 2 – Comparing Whole Numbers; 3 – Naming Whole Numbers Through Hundreds & Dollar and Cents; 4 – Adding One-Digit Numbers  Practicing the Addition Algorithm; I will be conducting some times exercises on addition and subtraction this week.
Social Studies:  Begin World Lakes!  Lakes of Africa; Lakes of South America.  Introduction to Cornell Method of Note taking..
Religion:.  We have new Religion Series books:  Finding God.  I plan on reviewing this new format with the students.
Literature:  Assigned book report for month:  Children are to choose a grade appropriate book that they want to read.  Book report is due October 1st – NO EXCEPTIONS!
English/Writing:  This week we will be reviewing parts of speech and sentence types.
This week we will review various parts of the the student handbook.  We wil cover Student Learning Expectations as well as the school rules.  I want to make sure everyone is aware of the changes we have instituted this year.
Computers:  Begin next week
 
Check your child’s folder for:  Parents Envelope.  This is a new mode of communication.  Please read the information on the front of the envelope as well as the material inside.
